Due to the lack of ICU beds at area hospitals, San Diego County has once again decided to extend the stay home order that restricts the movement of citizens and is intended to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The availability of ICU beds in the county has once again reached 0%. With such low availability of beds and hospitals operating at surge capacities, local health officials feel that the stay home order is more than justified.
Going forward, the county and state will work with each other to make projections using these metrics:
- ICU capacity
- Seven-day average case rate
- Transmission rate
- Rate of ICU admission
For as long as these figures remain, it is expected that the state and county will continue to extend stay home orders. The extension comes as California once again enters a booming period of thousands of cases a day, with no end in sight for containing the virus.
